About The Bridge at Argenteuil
Painted in 1874, Claude Monet’s The Bridge at Argenteuil is a mosaic of brilliant, unblended tones of blue, red, green, yellow depicting a tranquil view of the Seine and pleasure boats. His fluid strokes in shades of broken color evoke the lapping of glittering waves, while stronger, determined dabs of green create trees in the distance.

Claude Monet painted the Argenteuil Bridge no less than seven times that year. The lines and arches of the bridge provide a geometric balance to the flowing translucence of the water, which may explain his penchant for the motif.

About Claude Monet
One of the most inspirational and influential artists of any era, 19th-century French Impressionist Claude Monet forged an entirely new direction for the art world by developing a unique style that strove to capture on canvas the very act of perceiving nature. His experimentation with natural scenes and the ever-changing nature of light and color created atmospheres that were both magical and recognizable.
