About To Prince Edward Island
To Prince Edward Island is a 1965 acrylic on Masonite painting by Alex Colville. One of his most well-known paintings, it is held at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.

To Prince Edward Island depicts Colville's wife Rhoda Wright on the top deck of a ferry crossing the Northumberland Strait between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The woman is facing directly towards the viewer, looking through a pair of binoculars. A man, whose face is covered, is sitting behind her.

About Alex Colville
David Alexander Colville (1920-2013) was a Canadian painter and printmaker. His first contact with art was during his time in the Canadian Army, where he eventually became an Official Second World War artist, since he was a fine-arts student at this time.  Colville is often cited as belonging to the Magic Realism movement, and within this he developed his own style that influenced both a regional and national art community, as teacher and founder of what would become known as Maritime Realism.
