Under the right conditions, Mount Fuji turns a vivid red under the rising sun. InFine Wind, Clear Morning, also known asRed Fuji,Hokusai masterfully renders the colors of the scene. He emphasizes the vibrancy of the mountain against a sky riddled with clouds. Along withTenma Bridge in Setsu Province, it has come to be seen as a symbol of traditional Japanese art.
The artwork is part of the artist's series of woodblock prints,Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, which depict the mountain from various angles and seasons.

Hokusai's work transformed the ukiyo-e artform from a style of portraiture largely focused on courtesans and actors into a much broader style of art that focused on landscapes, plants, and animals.Over his career, Hokusai used more than 30 different names, always beginning a new cycle of works by changing it, and letting his students use the previous name.
