About The Beach at Saint-Clair
In 1891 Henri-Edmond Cross moved to the Côte d’Azur, which he glorified as an earthly paradise in his Pointillist paintings. The jewellike colors and the shimmering of the setting sun bestow a celebratory evening atmosphere on the grove of pines. The intense colors attest to Cross’s exchange with his friend Paul Signac, who also settled on the Mediterranean.

About Henri-Edmond Cross
Henri-Edmond Cross (1856–1910) was a French painter associated with Neo-Impressionism. Known for his luminous landscapes and vibrant use of color, he adopted the divisionist technique inspired by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. Much of his work depicts the Mediterranean coast of southern France, where he developed a highly personal style that helped pave the way for modern movements such as Fauvism.
