About Avery Coonley Playhouse
The Coonley House, designed by Wright in 1908 for Avery Coonley and his wife Queene, is one of his most significant residential projects. The Coonleys gave Wright creative freedom, resulting in a unique design that included not only the house but also a Playhouse and other decorative elements. The Coonley Playhouse, built in 1912, was designed as a space for educational activities for children. The Playhouse sported vibrant stained glass windows, which feature abstract patterns inspired by balloons and confetti.
